Summer Essentials: Keeping Your Canine Cool and Safe in the Heat!

It’s that time of year again!  We’re spending our days outside, taking trips to the beach, or long walks in the park and without a doubt you want your furry companion by your side for these adventures!  As we pack up our coolers and spray on our sunscreen, it’s important we consider their needs in these warmer temperatures as well.  We have curated a list of summer must haves for your 4 legged pets this summer.

1).  Portable Water Container

Keeping dogs hydrated in these warmer temps is a challenge, especially when outdoor dishes tend to collect dirt and bugs.  Be sure to always carry a portable dish and a spare bottle (or 2!) of water on your adventure.

2). Sunscreen

Isn’t waking up with a crispy sunburn the following day the worst?!  Your dog feels the same!  Be sure to grab some dog safe sunscreen and spray their entire body, making sure to hit their nose, lips, and ears!

3). Hat or shade protector

When you’re packing your big floppy sun hat or that huge umbrella, be sure to consider where your dog is going to escape the sun!  I always thought dogs look adorable in their own dog hat so that’s my personal preference 😉

4). Foot protectors/booties

When the temperature is a perfect 77 degrees outside, the pavement can reach 125 degrees, causing severe burns on your dog’s pads.  Sand at the beach can get just as hot so be sure to protect those paws with some booties! Besides, it’s always funny to watch a dog try out their boots for the first time watching them awkwardly figure out what these weird rubber contraptions are on their feet.

Keeping dogs cool, protected, and hydrated during these dog days of summer is the best way to avoid any risk of heat exhaustion and save yourselves a trip to the vet.

Now go out there and enjoy the beautiful weather!
